In Conversation With John Vitsur… President At Motivated Design
1. What feedback have you received from hotels about how motorized TV lifts enhance guest comfort and the perception of luxury?
A) To be honest, we have yet to receive any feedback from hotels about our products as I do not know how many, if any, use them at this time. They are a hit in the luxury suites of cruise ships however.
2. Can you speak to the durability and service requirements of your TV lift systems in high occupancy or high turnover properties?
A) While we have always given our products a 3 year unconditional warranty, aside from motors failing at times or some minor components going bad, we have yet to need to fully warranty anything. These lifts have all been built to last, and the motors used can more than handle the workload. For the Pop-Up style lifts, the motors have a thermal overload that will shut them down if the unit is run up and down repeatedly, but for the normal day to day use, there are no issues. For the Fold-Up Lifts, especially the “LED” line (4″ overhead space required), the motors have a 20000 hour lifetime, so when they run around 20 seconds to open/close each time, they should be able to do that a LOT before any motor issue.
3. How do your TV lift products adapt to different hotel room design schemes including boutique, luxury, or compact layouts, and what customization options are available?
A) We have a standard sized product for just about every TV size there is. Customizations are fairly easy to do in most cases if needed, however we designed our products to put the biggest TV in the smallest space possible. We are always open to hearing from people about customizations if needed, and we are happy to let them know whether they will be possible with our designs or not. For any of our products that use rails of some kind, we have a pretty vast array of standard sizes, with customizeable sizes an option if needed.
4. How do Motivated Design lifts integrate with existing hotel control systems or guest experience platforms given the rise of smart room technology?
A) When we got started in this business, our goal was to build a quality product at a competitive price, all while having somewhat simple electronics. We wanted to be solely TV Lift manufacturers, and let the Audio/Video people use automation systems and controls that they are familiar with that can easily connect/integrate with our product. We have the option of a relay interface (which is our standard for automation hookups) of 12VDC and 24 VDC. We can also install a stand alone RF Remote Kit package that needs either 110/120VAC or 220/230VAC power. In addition, we can install either a 110/120VAC or 220/230VAC relay should the lift be integrated to a wall switch. We have found over our 25+ years of manufacturing these products, that one of these options has worked for every job.
