Most furniture is good at one thing. A lobby chair is a lobby chair. A shower seat waits in a cupboard until somebody asks for it. All perfectly fine, and all adding up to a great many things for a hotel to buy, store and look after.

DORICA was designed for everyone and for everyday life, wherever people happen to be. It just turns out that a hotel, with all its rooms and all its guests, is where it really comes into its own. The best hotels have always understood that true luxury is anticipation: the thing you need being there before you knew you needed it. DORICA is built on that idea.

Follow one through a hotel for a day, and you’ll see what we mean. In the lobby at check-in, it becomes the extra chair, the little table for a coffee. At the bar, it is what every guest has quietly wished for: somewhere to put a bag that isn’t the floor. In the spa it sits by the treatment room, and it looks like it belongs there, because it does. And when a guest wants to take the afternoon out to the terrace or the garden, it is light enough to carry along in one hand: an extra seat, a side table, whatever the moment calls for.

Soft, warm and designed in Denmark, its sculptural form and calm palette sit as naturally in a luxury interior as anything a designer would choose on purpose. DORICA is an object that lives everywhere in a hotel: one universal design with endless uses. Wherever it ends up, and whatever it is asked to do, it simply gets on with it.

Nothing to explain, nothing to hide

Then there is the guest who needs a little more support. A seat in the shower. A perch to get dressed. Somewhere to rest on the way to dinner. For them, DORICA does the work support furniture has always done, only now it is the same object found in every other room. Nothing separate, nothing carried in, nothing to ask for. For a guest, that is the difference between being accommodated and being welcomed.

That, to us, is what good design is really about: caring for everyone so naturally that nobody notices.
