As part of a commissioned project, he created a ceiling sculpture measuring 600 cm in length for the newly opened Canada Goose store in Amsterdam. The sculptural installation was designed specifically for the space.

This artwork is called BERM (rural roadside plants) and reflects Joris’ fascination with the plants that thrive together alongside rural roads. Seasonal shifts shape the work—from early spring butterbur blooms to autumn’s lungwort and field thistle. These impressions have found their way into the colourful stratification of the laser-cut relief.

By dispersing colors throughout the various layers and shape groups of the hanging installation, Kuipers represents interconnectedness—the intricate interactions among plants. This network allows plants to warn of pathogen attacks and share resources, boosting resilience.

BERM also references Kuipers’ childhood, when he felt small among the towering vegetation and nature was a magical place to play and hide. It was a place where he could stay for hours, mesmerised by the tiniest wonders of the world.
