Bathrooms Are Becoming Part of the Hotel Bedroom
The traditional hotel bathroom is changing. Rather than being completely separated from the bedroom, bathrooms are increasingly being integrated into the wider guest room design, creating spaces that feel more open, connected, and considered.
Open plan layouts are becoming particularly popular in contemporary and luxury hotels. Glass partitions, freestanding baths, walk in showers, and partially enclosed bathroom areas allow the bedroom and bathroom to flow together while still providing a sense of privacy where it is needed.
Freestanding baths are often being used as a central feature rather than being hidden away in a separate bathroom. Positioned beside a window, at the end of the bed, or within the wider bedroom space, they can become a statement feature that adds a sense of luxury to the room.
Vanity areas are also being brought into the bedroom. Instead of keeping sinks and dressing areas behind a closed bathroom door, hotels are incorporating them into the main room using statement mirrors, decorative lighting, stone surfaces, and bespoke joinery. This can make smaller rooms feel more spacious while creating a stronger visual connection between the two areas.
Privacy remains an important consideration. Sliding doors, fluted glass, curtains, timber screens, and clever room dividers allow hotels to create openness without sacrificing comfort. These features give guests greater flexibility over how connected or private they want the spaces to feel.
The materials used throughout the bathroom are also becoming more closely aligned with the bedroom. Timber, stone, soft lighting, textured finishes, and warm tones can be carried between both areas to create a more cohesive interior rather than making the bathroom feel like a completely separate space.
This approach is particularly suited to hotels looking to create a more residential feel. Guests are increasingly drawn to rooms that feel like private retreats, and integrating the bathroom into the bedroom can contribute to a more relaxed and spacious atmosphere.
As hotel design continues to move towards more open and experience led interiors, the boundary between bedroom and bathroom is becoming less defined. For designers and hoteliers, it offers another opportunity to rethink the traditional guest room and create spaces that feel distinctive, luxurious, and tailored to modern travellers.
